The new game patch that was released yesterday states that the map Dust 2 has been replaced with the map Inferno in the Active Duty Group. The patch also added a separate Dust 2 map group for Casual and Deathmatch game modes.
Valve have decided to remove legendary CS:GO map Dust2 from Active Duty for the foreseeable future. Inferno has been chosen to take Dust2’s place in the competitive rotation and will appear at the next CS:GO major.
With Dust2’s removal from Active Duty, this fan favourite map will no longer be used in future CS:GO tournaments. It is still easy to access for casual and deathmatch games and it even has its own category on the Competitive Matchmaking screen, should you wish to play only Dust2.

inferno was removed from the active map rotation to make way for Nuke, much to many pro players dismay, as Inferno is a testament to players' grenade mastery and teamwork. While the map's return to the map pool was anticipated, it was still a split guess between Dust 2 and Cobblestone on which was to be removed.
The reasons behind the popularity of this map are its simplicity and easy to learn game play. The map areas are clearly defined and there is a role for everyone on the team in terms of someone wanted to play AWP or be an entry fragger. On top of that, the map is incredible balanced with a Counter-Terrorists winning 49.9 percent of the time compared to 50.1 percent for the Terrorists. This map truly lets greater skill come through rather than a sided map in any one direction.
DreamHack Masters director Marc Winther has confirmed via Twitter that Inferno will be in the map pool for DreamHack Masters Las Vegas which commences on February 15. Future events like Intel Extreme Masters Katowice will no doubt follow suit but the ESL has yet to confirm if Inferno will appear in its map pool.
Dust2 is one of the Counter-Strike series' oldest maps, being featured in the original Counter-Strike, Counter-Strike: Source, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. The map was initially added into the original Counter-Strike in May 2001 and has been a fixture in the games ever since. After nearly 16 years, it will now be retired as Valve looks to rework the map to the standard that it has for Inferno and Nuke.
The creator of Dust 2, one of the most iconic maps in FPS history, has explained that he intended for it to look totally different.
Dave Johnston, the man behind the creation of Dust 2 during CS 1.6, on Twitter wrote that the area of the map known as “Long A” only exists due to running out of “world space”.
